Lecture regarding Indian activity in area

Thursday, September 22, at 2:00 pm located at the Class Room (western overview) theater.     Lecture delivered by Don Wells Indian historian.  Don is the President of Mountain Stewards who have been instrumental in the development of Mt Oglethorpe Park.

Lecture Synopsis -

The Mountain Stewards in its Indian Cultural Heritage Program have been identifying, documenting and working to preserve Indian sites nationwide. Through the work of many volunteer colleagues across the nation, this very important research has been on-going for more than a decade. With a decade of research on Indian Cultural, we thought we were beginning to have a good understanding of this subject and have recorded our work in a book and documentary. But now, in the last year, we, along with several research colleagues, have discovered new findings that are impacting our knowledge base and having us to return to sites already researched to do much more research about the Indian sites.

Our recent findings have determined that most, if not all, sacred Indian sites are placed directly over underground streams. It now appears that having a connection between the underground water and the Indian site is very important to the sacredness of the site. We have now checked many Indian Marker Trees and there is an underground stream directly under the tree. Further, it now appears the tree was planted at the site and not randomly selected to be bent. Also, every artifact site such as rock cairns, rock structures such as Track Rock, Effigy Mounds and many more sites are placed directly over underground streams. We are now conducting detail surveys and many sites and will report our findings in the Solstice Program.

Additionally, we are using the skills of dowsing to locate the underground streams associated with the artifact sites. We will do a demonstration at the program on the use of this very fascinating yet scientifically unproven technique for researching Indian sites.

Romancing The Mt. Oglethorpe Bluestone Conundrum

Rock Piles Located at Eagles Rest

On Wednesday, September 23rd at 2pm, we’ll celebrate the Autumnal Equinox at Eagle’s Rest Park on Mt. Oglethorpe.  Come each and everyone, add your touch…your stones…to the Bluestone Collection at Eagle’s Rest.

Through the millennium the bluestones of Stonehenge, New Grange and the Indian mounds of the Americas have marked man’s presence on this earth, so why not men and women…of the present.  Leave your mark…your stones…for future generations to wonder about our time on earth.

Stones are forever.  Come lay your stones…from wherever ye may gather them and take them to the mountain.  Help continually build the stone eagle on the South Face of Mt. Oglethorpe and the stacked stones appearing in Eagle’s Rest Park.

Don Wells, author of “The Mystery of the Trees” and “Stone Structures – A Mystery of the Indigenous People” will present on “Indian Rock Structures” and Mt. Oglethorpe’s Indian history.

The Mountain Stewards, under the leadership of Don Wells, have just completed the new Northern Viewing Deck and have now started planning for the construction of the Southern Viewing Deck, just below the stone eagle sculpture.

Help us to “romance the bluestones” of Mt. Oglethorpe.  Your spirit of love and kindness can live on by letting future generations know that once upon a time there was a place of peace and harmony, a place where the rocks of all ages captured our hearts and imaginations…where romancing the stones of Mt. Oglethorpe created a place where our souls and hearts became one with nature.

On Wednesday, September 23rd at 2pm, we’ll celebrate the Autumnal Equinox at Eagle’s Rest Park on Mt. Oglethorpe.  Come each and everyone to add your touch…your stones…to the Bluestone Collection at Eagle’s Rest Park.

You can keep the dream alive by supporting the on-going work at Eagle’s Rest Park.

June 21st, during Summer Solstice: A tribute to Billie Ann Rice

Tribute to Billie Ann

Honoring Billie Ann and Celebrating the Winter Solstice

She always wanted a mountain to fly away to on gossamer wings, beyond the temporal world to a heavenly place.

She always wanted a mountain to explore the mathematical movements of the cosmos through the ever changing gift of nature.

She always wanted a mountain to experience serenity while walking among the wildflowers and under the umbrella of green.

She always wanted a mountain to retreat to from endless lines, waiting for time to pass as red turns to yellow…yellow to green.

She always wanted a mountain to feel the morning mist as the land is kissed by the rising sun of hope.

She always wanted a mountain to save the trees and wildflowers from the commercial instincts of man.

She always wanted a mountain to see the distant world from on high far from the human race that is keeping a constant pace.

She always wanted a mountain to give to her loved ones so that they could find peace and grace in a Godly place.

She always wanted a mountain so that the people who come here  would soar on wings like an eagle; hike in nature and not grow weary, so that they would enjoy a Godly place and not be faint.

This mountain is Billie Ann’s mountain…this Mountain…is your mountain.

Billie Ann always wanted a mountain.

but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew

their strength; they shall mount up with wings

as eagles, they shall run and not be weary,

and they shall walk and not faint.
